Art Nouveau Majolica Jardiniere Faience by Julius Dressler Bohemia Austria 1900

I've been buying and selling Julius Dressler for thirty years--and loving finding all the different styles that this genius of the fin-de-siecle Austrian gentleman could come up with. While he did go into the Deco period briefly in the 1920's--it was always his Art Nouveau period t hat I found was his most well loved and unusual and since the period ws short in length--he must have worked like crazy with the top majolica designers of the period. Later Hitler would consider his wonderful work to be decadent and much was destroyed...and perhaps that is one reason why the remaining pieces have appreciated so much in the last decade or so.
This particular jardinere in deep forest green is a wonderful shape--bulbus in shape with 4 major ribs alternately decorated from top to bottom but very elegantly done and not so over the top as some of his work would become. The 7" inches tall and 8 inches across at the top and then the protruding ribs make it most unusual and striking. The piece is flawless in the areas we see but there is a chip on the base it would b e very easy to repair this but I leave that to the buyer if they feel it necessary.
