Amazing, fabulous casting ceramic sculpture depicting Dante Alighieri with a beautiful pigeon blood red tunic and his famous characteristic headdress. The sculpture is perfect in all respects without the slightest chips or breakage or part restored. Signed under the base with the famous Viennese brand of Wiener Keramik, founded in 1906 by one of the greatest artists and ceramists of the European scene of the early 1900s, Michael Powolny. Just a year later, in 1907 it was taken over by the Wiener Werkstatte, founded in 1903 by the architect Josef Hoffmann and the painter Koloman Moser, which had the aim of gathering all the styles of that era, from Viennese secessionism to English Liberty, from the Art Noveau to the Jagenstill and the Arts and Crafts. All the greatest European artists worked for this important factory in the early decades of the 1900s. The beauty of this sculpture is beyond question. Many sculptors have proposed the figure of the most famous Italian poet and I would say of the world Dante Alighieri, with busts, whole statues in bronze, marble, terracotta but this is the most beautiful apartment-sized ceramic sculpture I have ever seen. The face is fabulously modeled, the hand that holds the book has the fingers well detached from each other. The dark red color of the tunic and the very rich glazing give to the sculpture a rare elegance. A very important and rare piece, never seen on sale, in our opinion absolutely not to be missed !!
