Here we have a new Cutler-Hammer definite purpose 3 pole magnetic motor starter in a NEMA 1 enclosure. It is not horsepower rated. The ratings are in amperage - up to 30A on 240V. It is a 3 pole starter but has only 2 overloads. This arrangement was common prior to the 1971 edition of the National Electrical Code. It requires two overload heaters (not included) that are sized to the motor being controlled. It has a 208/220 Volt AC coil. The nameplate calls it an air conditioning starter but it could be used to control any single or 3 phase motor up to 30A full load.
This starter is new old stock. It was probably made in the 1960s. It has been sitting in our warehouse since. The box fell apart long ago and the starter enclosure is scuffed and dirty.
