Description
Discovered at a local estate sale and up for sale is this very beautiful Viennese ceramic wall plaque, circa 1890, by Ernst Wahliss, an Austrian Ceramicist who created ornate pieces in porcelain and earthenware for the Elite of Europe. The plaque depicts a stunningly beautiful woman, who has a Baroque style head dress made up of beads and gems, bronze medallions and dangling charms.. she is in profile and has light brown hair loosely gathered into a gentle knot at the back of her head.. Her skin is a creamy color, and her flowing blouse is a satin khaki shade about the color of the rectangular background. The background measures 13 1/2 inches x 11 3/4 inches and the outer frame measures 16 1/2 inches x 15 3/4 inches. The outer frame is an undulating form with naturalistic cherries or fruit sprays on both sides and at the base. It is in bronze chocolate khaki tones.. Overall there is a color continuity which is quite bewitching to the observer.... there are some age related wear in the form of rubs both front and back, a small chip on the (R) lower edge of the outer frame, and a light mark on the Lady's face.. but that is not very noticeable... please check out my photos and feel free to email me with any questions. Thanks. Ernst Wahliss excelled in his creation of this exceptionally beautiful wall hanging plaque!
